What are the specific rules for labeling and watches? (us imports)
Chapter 91, Additional U.S. Note 4, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States sets, special marking requirements for watches:
- Movements to be allowed to point to one or more of the bridge or deck plates, identify:
- The name of the country of manufacture,
- The name of the manufacturer or purchaser, and
- in words, is the number of stones, if available, a mechanical purpose as frictional heat storage.
- Movements are to be shown on the visible part of the front or rear panel, marked:
- The name of the country of manufacture,
- The name of the manufacturer or purchaser, and
- the number of stones, if any.
- Watch case will be marked on the inside or outside of the back to show:
- the name of the country, manufacturing and
- The name of the manufacturer or purchaser.
- Clock cases will be marked on the outside of the visible part of the back to show the name of the country of manufacture.
The above-mentioned movements and cases must be clearly and indelibly marked by cutting, sinking, engraving, embossing marks (including the use of indelible ink), or mold-marking. Movements with opto-electronic display only and cases designed for use therewith, whether entered as separate articles or as components of assembled watches or clocks, are excluded from these special labeling requirements.
Watches and clocks are also subject to the normal country of origin marking requirement of 19 USC 1304, and under these conditions, the movement of the country of origin visible and easily legible appear on the dial or on the outside of the back. In addition, wristbands are marked with the country of manufacture of the band, unless the bracelet in the country, where the clock was made is attached.
