Does CBP sell or auction off property that is not cleared or claimed after arriving in the U.S.?
Yes; if the goods are not claimed and entry is not filed within 15 days, the goods will be transferred to a general order warehouse (GO) and are subject to storage fees. Someone wants to return goods to the U.S. for repair/alteration. How can the U.S. recipient avoid paying duty on the item?

Is duty required when U.S. components, materials, assets etc. are sent overseas for assembly or processing, then returned back to the U.S.? For instance, gold or stone to be used in jewelry?
