Default Internet Purchases - Importer ordered goods from overseas and I have not received the goods. The seller will not refund me my money; what recourse do I have? Can Customs and Border Protection assist m

Document entitled Internet Purchases , which gives detailed examples of what an importer is required to do from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) standpoint. However, CBP does not get involved with agreements made between the foreign supplier and U.S. consumer, nor do we have to ability to trace the package and locate it.

CBP can only account for packages that have been seized or detained because they are in violation of CBP or other federal agencies' regulations. When CBP does detain a package, the importer would be notified immediately. Many overseas suppliers tell U.S. consumers that their goods are with CBP when that is rarely the case. As a general rule for door-to-door deliveries, goods are physically under the control of the carrier (i.e. ship, cargo aircraft, etc.) throughout the process of "clearing CBP." The first thing you should do to find your goods is contact the carrier that brought them to the U.S. The fact of the matter is, there are many possibilities why you have not received your goods and if you wish to take action against the overseas supplier, you should contact the embassy of the country the goods were exported from to get some advice or recommendations.
