Default Do I have to register my firearms, laptop computer, camera equipment etc. in person, or can someone do it on my behalf?

To register your goods, you need to do in person, because the form usually used to register for goods to travel abroad requires the owners to the form to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer to sign presence.

If you are not able to do so in advance of your trip, you should make arrangements to register your goods at the port of exit. Call in advance to ensure someone will be available to register your goods. Phone numbers are in the Ports of Entry section of the website.

If it is impossible for you to take your goods in person, is at the port, you can call the port, to explain the circumstance to prevent coming in person, and ask if they enable you to fill out a form on the CBP 4455 and write a letter authorizing someone else to register the item on your behalf, but please note that CBP officers have the right to require the owner of a thing, they bring in person for registration are.
