The import of seafood is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The import of marine mammals is also under the jurisdiction of the NMFS and FWS. Tuna and sardines are subject to quota. FWS limits the quantity of caviar that can put travelers in the U.S. by up to 125 grams. If the traveler has more than this amount if the goods are subject to seizure. There are also restrictions for commercial importation. There is an embargo on shrimp and goods from certain countries. The Department of State, Office of Marine Conservation has Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with a list of countries with which they have been as acceptable methods of shrimp harvest allowed. The importation of shrimp from countries certified acceptable. However, importers are required, a form DS-2031 (formerly DSP-121) to the CBP, will it be on file. Imports from countries not certified by the Department of State must have a Form DS-2031 submitted with each entry to get with "certifications government" CBP release. If you have concerns or questions regarding these requirements, you can contact the Department of State at (202) 647-2335. To obtain the FDAS regulations on the importation of seafood, you can call (301) 436-2303. Finally, all commercial imports of food products and beverages require the filing of a notification with FDA and foreign manufacturers and / or distributor of food products must register with the FDA before its products for resale can be allowed. (These requirements do not apply to food accompanying a traveler to the United States to apply or sent by an individual in the U.S. for personal consumption.) If you have questions about these requirements, please contact directly the FDA. |
