Default How is a U.S.- issued ATA Carnet processed by Customs and Border Protection?

Before leaving the United States presented to the holder of a US-issued carnet ATA Carnet and the goods on a falling Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer. The Carnet is reviewed for completeness and accuracy, and the goods are checked to ensure that they match the Carnet list. The CBP officer then reviews the Carnet document and certify the appropriate exportation counterfoil and voucher. The TIR and CBP are certified to export voucher carnet holder, the voucher as a permanent record of the transaction retains CBP returned.

(Note: The TIR affect export control requirements such as the filing of shipper's export declaration or the need to obtain export licenses.)

After his return to the United States, presented to the holder of a US-issued carnet carnet and goods to a CBP officer for the exam. Attesting to the appropriate Re-Import counterfoil and voucher, and returns the carnet to the holder for further use or transfer to the issuing association.

(Note: U.S. carnets issued only, the vouchers of the yellow export / re-import leaves are not separate but will stay with the document when leaving or returning to the United States.)

It is the responsibility of the holder of the TIR Carnet, which present to the customs authorities when entering or leaving a country in order to place the necessary review and certification of the supporting documents and master pages can.

Failure to do so will result in a claim. A claim is a message from a customs authority of the country to import, that a violation of the carnet system has occurred, and the payment of customs duties, taxes and penalties are needed.
